We are so grateful we found Brian and Ryan! Finishing an unfinished basement can easily be overwhelming. However, Basement Builders completed the task in a timely manner with clear communication throughout the whole process. In addition, they gave us a competitive quote. The crew are great to work with, and happily adjusted plans when ideas came to mind along the way. We were comfortable having them in our home, and are very approachable. If an item needed fixing or adjusting, they always resolved the issue swiftly; we are confident in contacting them following this experience if something needs to be fixed. We have no regrets using Basement Builders, and will use them in the future when we are ready for additional projects.

We had a great overall experience working with Utah Basement Builders! They gave us a competitive quote and, most impressively, stuck to that budget. Brian and Ryan’s crews worked efficiently, and we are very pleased with the quality of the finished work. There were some delay’s with working into subcontractor’s schedules, but the communication was great, and we felt like we always had a good idea of what was going on. We recommend them!

Brian and team finished our basement on time, despite the many additions and alterations along the way. My wife and I had a good initial gut feeling about Brian, and he followed through, impressing us the whole way to finish. Communication could not have been better, quality was great, prices were very fair. I highly recommend this company.

I needed my basement to be turned into a walkout apartment. It was a big ask. They took my vision and made it work. Literally everything I asked for was done. I was most impressed with the communication. They were quick to respond and asked me questions of what I wanted for the entire project. They stayed on budget which I know is a rare thing. I have worked with two others companies on home projects and have never been on budget. Their original quote was accurate and only changed if I made changes from the original agreement. Quality was beyond my expectations. I will absolutely work with them again. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Brian & Ryan are fabulous to work with. Their quote was the most reasonable and their quality finishing my entire basement apartment was superb - everyone who visits talks about how high quality the work is, what nice craftsmanship. They were flexible and happy to work with me on a few new requests as we went along.

Why a Basement Theater Room?

Movie theaters — when they’re open — are expensive. Bringing your whole family to a movie can cost $100 or more, and that’s before you even buy snacks. Building a basement theater room can actually save you money.

And it’s more versatile than you might think. You can use it for family movie night, date night when you have friends over and for parties. What better way to watch the big game, binge your favorite shows, or have a super immersive video game experience.

Basement Flooring and Insulation

When you’re considering building a basement theater room, our experts sit down with you and discuss the specifics. All finished basements should include basement insulation for optimal comfort. But with a home theater, insulating basement walls, as well as the ceiling, is important to muffle the sound and help with proper acoustics.

You often have many choices when it comes to basement flooring. Tile and hardwood are popular, but when you have a basement theater room, carpet is usually the best choice. The fibers help absorb the sound and cut down on reverberation.

Lighting Considerations

Light also plays a factor when you’re building a basement theater room. However, this problem can also be addressed during the construction phase. Many clients opt for a home theater that does not fill their entire basement. The reasoning often is that they want to dedicate some of the space to other hobbies such as playing games or working out.

Another reason is that your theater equipment must be properly matched to your space. Equipment that is too big or too small for the space can distort the sound. Or, you simply may prefer a more intimate home theater experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who builds soundproof basement home theaters in Utah?

Utah Basement Builders designs custom basement home theaters with sound-reducing materials, acoustic planning, theater lighting, built-in storage, seating layouts, and entertainment features that create a true movie-room experience.

Why is a basement a good place for a home theater?

Basements naturally reduce outside light and noise, making them ideal for home theaters. With the right lighting, sound design, seating, and finishes, a basement can become one of the best entertainment spaces in a finished basement.

Can Utah Basement Builders create a custom home theater room?

Yes. Every basement theater is designed around your available space, screen size, seating preferences, and audio setup rather than a fixed template. Many homeowners connect the theater to a nearby game room or wet bar, so the whole area flows together for entertaining.

How many seats can fit in a basement theater?

Most dedicated home theaters seat four people comfortably per row, and a room of at least 15 feet by 20 feet, a common footprint for a Utah basement, can typically fit six to eight seats across two rows. Utah Basement Builders designs the seating layout around your basement’s actual dimensions.

Does a basement home theater increase home value?

A home theater’s effect on resale value is less predictable than an upgrade like a bedroom or bathroom. Appraisers typically value the room as part of the basement’s overall finished square footage rather than adding a premium for the theater itself, though buyers in certain markets do treat it as a genuine luxury feature. Utah Basement Builders designs theater rooms with enough flexibility that the space still works well if a future owner wants to use it differently.

Can a basement theater include cabinets, snack bars, or beverage centers?

Yes. Utah Basement Builders can add custom cabinets, media storage, and concession-style features like a mini fridge or popcorn station to make the theater more functional.

What lighting works best for a basement theater room?

Dimmable recessed lights, LED accent lighting, step lighting, sconces, and smart lighting controls work well in basement theaters. These options create a movie-like atmosphere while reducing screen glare.

How long does it take to build a basement theater room?

Professional soundproofing alone typically takes one to three weeks to install, on top of the framing, electrical, and finishing work involved in any basement room. Most basement theater rooms take four to six weeks total, depending on the level of soundproofing, cabinetry, and seating involved. Utah Basement Builders provides a project schedule after the design consultation.
