Adding a Basement Kitchen

The benefits of adding a kitchen or kitchenette in your basement are significant, with value and convenience high on the list. You can double your capacity for cooking and storage while improving the value of your home.

Whether your downstairs space includes a game room, guest suite, man cave, or lady haven, having a kitchen close at hand adds convenience and comfort. Of course, you could also make a tricked-out designer kitchen the focal point of your basement remodeling project.

Installing a downstairs kitchen is also cost-effective, as it typically doesn’t require making any structural modifications. And since all the necessary utilities should be close at hand, the cost for plumbing, wiring, and drains will be substantially less than they might be for an addition or major remodeling project.

We are so grateful we found Brian and Ryan! Finishing an unfinished basement can easily be overwhelming. However, Basement Builders completed the task in a timely manner with clear communication throughout the whole process. In addition, they gave us a competitive quote. The crew are great to work with, and happily adjusted plans when ideas came to mind along the way. We were comfortable having them in our home, and are very approachable. If an item needed fixing or adjusting, they always resolved the issue swiftly; we are confident in contacting them following this experience if something needs to be fixed. We have no regrets using Basement Builders, and will use them in the future when we are ready for additional projects.

We had a great overall experience working with Utah Basement Builders! They gave us a competitive quote and, most impressively, stuck to that budget. Brian and Ryan’s crews worked efficiently, and we are very pleased with the quality of the finished work. There were some delay’s with working into subcontractor’s schedules, but the communication was great, and we felt like we always had a good idea of what was going on. We recommend them!

Brian and team finished our basement on time, despite the many additions and alterations along the way. My wife and I had a good initial gut feeling about Brian, and he followed through, impressing us the whole way to finish. Communication could not have been better, quality was great, prices were very fair. I highly recommend this company.

I needed my basement to be turned into a walkout apartment. It was a big ask. They took my vision and made it work. Literally everything I asked for was done. I was most impressed with the communication. They were quick to respond and asked me questions of what I wanted for the entire project. They stayed on budget which I know is a rare thing. I have worked with two others companies on home projects and have never been on budget. Their original quote was accurate and only changed if I made changes from the original agreement. Quality was beyond my expectations. I will absolutely work with them again. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Brian & Ryan are fabulous to work with. Their quote was the most reasonable and their quality finishing my entire basement apartment was superb - everyone who visits talks about how high quality the work is, what nice craftsmanship. They were flexible and happy to work with me on a few new requests as we went along.

Adding a Basement Bar

Adding a bar brings fun and function to your basement. Gather with friends and family to watch a game or movie, have a girls’ or boys’ night in, or celebrate a special occasion with all your favorite beverages right at your fingertips.

Alone or in conjunction with a kitchen or kitchenette, a basement bar is the perfect addition to your game room, home theater, living room, or guest suite. In fact, with the right design — including a refrigerator, sink, and storage — your wet bar can double as a kitchenette. This increases your home’s value even further and frees up space for more storage or other amenities.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you add a kitchen or wet bar to a basement in Utah?

Yes. Utah Basement Builders designs and builds custom basement kitchens and wet bars with sinks, cabinets, countertops, beverage refrigerators, islands, microwaves, storage, and seating.

What is the difference between a basement kitchen and a wet bar?

A basement kitchen is designed for meal preparation and may include larger appliances. A wet bar is usually designed for entertaining and often includes a sink, beverage cooler, wine storage, cabinets, and serving space.

Can a basement kitchen increase home value?

A basement kitchen does more than add convenience; it’s often what turns a basement into a legal, separate living space. An in-law suite with its own kitchen can generate $15,000 to $30,000 in annual rental income, in addition to making the basement more appealing to future buyers. Local zoning determines whether that kind of layout is allowed.

What countertops work best for basement kitchens and bars?

Quartz, granite, butcher block, and solid-surface countertops are popular choices for basement kitchens and bars. Utah Basement Builders helps homeowners choose materials based on style, durability, maintenance, and budget.

Can you build custom cabinets for basement bars?

Yes. Utah Basement Builders builds custom bar cabinets with wine storage, glass displays, and appliance openings, often as part of a broader custom cabinet solutions plan for the basement.

What appliances can be included in a basement kitchen?

Basement kitchens and bars can include beverage refrigerators, microwaves, ice makers, wine coolers, dishwashers, cooktops, compact refrigerators, and other appliances, depending on the layout.

Can a basement kitchen be designed for entertaining?

Yes. Utah Basement Builders designs basement kitchens and bars with open layouts, seating, serving areas, custom lighting, cabinetry, and functional workspaces for hosting family and friends. These spaces pair well with basement living rooms and basement theaters.

Why choose Utah Basement Builders for basement kitchens and bars?

Basement kitchens and bars involve more plumbing and electrical work than almost any other room in a basement finish, since water lines, drains, and added circuits all have to tie into the home’s existing systems correctly. Ryan and Brian personally coordinate that work on every project instead of leaving it to separate subcontractors, which keeps the layout functional and up to code.
